Why Grass is Good

• Grass cools your environment

Grass intercepts sunlight and evaporatively cools the immediate environment. Grass is cooler than paving or concrete. The temperature on green grass in summer is 22 degrees celsius less than synthetic turf.

• Grass improves your air quality and combats pollution

Grass traps dust and airborne dirt, taking them out of the air and improves your air quality. Grass also removes many air pollutants such as hydrogen fluoride, ozone and sulfur dioxide which are well known or potential sources of respiration irritation.

• Grass produces oxygen

As grass grows it takes carbon dioxide out of the air and releases healthy oxygen. A 15 x 15m space can produce enough oxygen for a family of four.

• Grass is good for soil

Grass roots, stems and leaves are constantly growing and then dying. As they die, they put organic material and carbon into your soil. This builds healthy micro-organisms in the soil, recycles nutrients and increases water retention. Grass also encourages beneficial animals like earthworms – about 1.3 million per football field!

• Grass makes your environment quieter

Grass absorbs noise so it makes your environment quieter and more restful.
